GENERAL
- To build up a rich database of information and a bank of biospecimens which will become a valuable national resource for research.
- To provide the platform to study the roles and interaction of genes, environment and lifestyle in various diseases.
- To find solutions and make discoveries through scientific research and international research collaboration.
- To participate in an international research consortium that will accelerate the quality and quantity of research in life sciences and biotechnology.
SPECIFIC
- To study and determine the roles and interaction of genes, environment and lifestyle in various diseases through a large scale population cohort study.
- To discover biomarkers for cancers and other diseases using the genomics and proteomics approach would eventually lead to early detection and prevention of diseases.
- To develop and sustain the national biotechnology initiative through a systematic discovery programme via international collaborative research initiatives.
- To establish a National BIOBANK as a major resource of biospecimens and data for the national scientifc community.
